final general reflection

It is not easy to reflect about what has been learnt through Practicum V. Because now that experience did not only implied the internship also the Seminars and the knowledge gained throughout the degree that was also used in this experience. For that reason I have created a short story to explain how I feel after ending that chapter of my life. Bellow the story you will find a short description of it.

The inside story of Helena shows the way in which all the learning gained through the experience of Practicum V has changed her as an English teacher. As it was mentioned in the story the internship is not only being in the school, it also involves applying all the knowledge gained in the Seminars. Honestly, I consider that the seminar gives the students the chance to reflect and think deep upon their implementation. It is beneficial because the tutor guides the student, but also the peers give them ideas and that helps to construct a better project. Being a teacher implies working and collaborating with others, the UAB seminars do kind of the same role. You feel like a team in which you contribute to the ideas and projects of other and that enriches all the contributors. If I had to highlight one of the aspects learned through the seminars I would say resources and strategies. Each seminar provided me with different tools that I would apply in my near future as a teacher. Exchanging those resources was a great way of learning and what is more important a useful aspect that as teachers we may need.
Personally, I must confess that my internship experience was not as I expected. However, I consider that I learned a lot from the school and how does education need to change in order to be meaningful. Because what is the point in asking the students to do three English exams per month in which they memorize the concepts, if later they are not able to use English in real life? Surprisingly, you can learn a lot from professionals that do not carry out their jobs as they should. You learn which aspects you would change and how they would affect the class. It may seem contrary to what I have just mentioned, but I really enjoyed the experience because the school gave me the chance to implement several lessons as an English teacher with different grades. Moreover, I was very motivated with the project developed, I never had the chance before to create and implement a project with other teachers and schools and I hope is not the last time I do it. Because it cannot be denied that it has been an enriching activity for me and for the students. As the inside story of Helena mentioned, I belief that there are some weaknesses in which I still have to work. On the other hand, I am aware of the strengths and I will potentiate them.

And now what?

Now its time to explore and become the teacher I have always wanted to be. I am sure it will not be easy because I promised myself that I would keep training, because I perceive teaching as a lifelong learning task. Honestly, I do not know if I will be a Primary teacher, an English teacher or a CLIL teacher. But with pride I can say that I want to be a teacher and I know that I would do my best to promote the education that children deserve.

All in all, I just want to express my gratitude towards all the teachers, mentors, friends, family and classmates that have helped me to become the teacher I am.
